In 1954, Akira (Leiji) Matsumoto's inaugural manga was released, originating from his submission to the 'Shinjin ō' drawing competition hosted by Manga Shounen magazine in November 1953. Winning the contest at the age of fifteen marked the inception of Matsumoto's career as a mangaka. Fast forward to 2018, and both Italian and French versions of this work were published with Matsumoto sensei's approval. Notably, the Italian iteration was reissued by the 'Leiji Matsumoto Cultural Association' in 2021. Furthermore, in Japan, a 2014 collection titled 'The Adventures of Honeybee: Leiji Matsumoto Unpublished/Early Works Collection' included a reprint of this significant piece from Matsumoto's early oeuvre.
