In the final months of the Pacific War, two schoolgirls, San and Mayu, find themselves in Okinawa. Forced to become nurses for injured soldiers along with their classmates, they are commanded to make the ultimate sacrifice for their nation. Refusing this fate, the group flees, only to encounter the brutal transformation of their tropical home into a nightmarish battleground.
