At Gunjo Academy, students who excel in a unique exam are segregated from society due to their perceived inability to adapt. When Kurosu Taichi and fellow broadcasting club peers experience a disastrous summer trip, they return to find the city abandoned, save for themselves. In a bid to understand the world outside, Taichi rallies his friends to aid Miyasumi Misato, the club president, in establishing a broadcast link to reach potential survivors.
