Genjou Sanzou, a Buddhist monk tasked by the Emperor to retrieve sacred scriptures, encounters the mischievous Monkey Deity Son Goku after being informed by an Earth Deity of Buddha's disciple selection. Joining forces with the playful Cho Hakkai, the General Sagojyou, and the Dragon Crown Prince Ryuuba, the group embarks on a journey filled with battles against monsters and engaging in bishounen competitions.
