Hailing from Kyushu, Japan, Megumi relocates to Northeast China with his family in 1933. In the aftermath of Japan's defeat, he finds himself stranded in Liaoning, working as a cattle herder on a landlord's estate. In 1948, assuming the pseudonym 'Zhang Rongqing,' he enlists in the People’s Liberation Army, participating in the fierce battles of Liaoshen and Pingjin, wholeheartedly dedicating himself to the ideals of the proletarian revolution.
