Tobidase! Machine Hiryuu
In a showdown between rival car companies, Chairmen Gapporin and Misaki opt for a sporting face-off through their support of different race car teams. Gapporin enlists the legendary racer Okkanabichi, while Misaki puts his faith in the untested driver Riki Kazama, who pilots the remarkable flying car, Machine Hiryu. This Tatsunoko creation, blending elements of Speed Racer and Time Bokan, introduces a vibrant cast including Riki's charming girlfriend Nana, the pint-sized mechanic Chuta, a delightful ape, a loyal pooch, and a mix of comical and glamorous adversaries in the shadows. The early collaborative efforts of renowned figures like Yoshitaka Amano and Kunio Okawara shape this production within the studio's distinctive style. Manga adaptations of the narrative found their way into various publications like Terebi Magazine and Terebi Land. The era was ablaze with racing fervor in Japanese animation, echoing the popularity of titles such as the contemporaneous Arrow Emblem.
