Shuichi Hirata, acclaimed for his work on Cannes-nominated Innocence and Annecy-selected xxxHOLiC - A Midsummer Night's Dream, oversees the art direction. Drawing inspiration from 18th-century Japanese art, the graphic style in Asience: Hairy Tale is infused with Nakazawa's distinctive, emotive brushwork. Eschewing 3D animation, the meticulous process involves hand-tracing brush lines with pencil on paper. The narrative concept, weaving a poignant tale of love and tragedy within a samurai drama setting, symbolizes the essence of a woman's life through the metaphor of her hair.
