Yuichi Ezaki, afflicted with hepatitis A, finds himself isolated in a hospital, distanced from his loved ones much to his chagrin. Seeking solace from the monotony, he daringly ventures out of the hospital, often facing reprimand from his nurse. His encounter with a girl his age, also a patient, mesmerizes him with her beauty. Despite Akiba Rika's outwardly prickly demeanor—marked by selfishness and moodiness—Yuichi is drawn to her. Their companionship blossoms, navigating the highs and lows of adolescent romance, shadowed by the looming specter of Rika's terminal illness.
