After a year away, Shinpachi Shimura comes back to Edo to find his Yorozuya comrades, Gintoki and Kagura, transformed into unrecognizable personas. As chaos ensues, Shinpachi realizes that everyone in Edo has undergone extreme changes, including his sister Otae, who is now married to Isao Kondou, the Shinsengumi leader. Joining the Shinsengumi, Shinpachi uncovers more surprising alterations within the organization and beyond. Alongside the steadfast Vice Chief Toushirou Hijikata, Shinpachi embarks on a mission to restore Edo to its former state.
